Thoguh the condition of sports in West Bengal is quite poor still o f late some meusures have been taken to uplift sports like chess. Recently in Town Hall of Kolkata the Mayors Cup was held. In this type of tournaments young talents of West Bengal get the oppurtunity to show their potential.
In the Mayor's cup young Diptayan Ghosh won the tournament and even a rapid tournament in ManoharPukur area a chess tournament is organised in which Diptayan and Sayantan Das are the stars. I lost the first round to Diptayan but it showed his command over the game as Diptayan won the match in a wonderful manner.
The official in West Bengal also must be given a good bow for encouraging young talents like Diptayan and Sayantan. Of the yesteryears players Ananda Ghosh is a well established player.The players must work harder as chess though not a very money fetching game must be encouraged not only in West Bengal but in India.
